THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND FOR SEVERAL SECONDS LEAVING ME EXPOSED IN THE PASSING LANE. THEN IT ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND STRONGLY CATCHING ME BY SURPRISE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY TO ACCELERATE IN 2ED GEAR FROM 35MPH. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY IT IS AN ECU PROBLEM AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX. THIS SURGE IS VERY STRONG IN SECOND GEAR AND CAUSED THE RIDER TO MOMENTARILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE BIKE. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. DUCATI SUGGESTED THAT I ATTEMPT TO CONTROL THE SURGES BY REDUCING THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL THAT LIMIT FRONT WHEEL RISES. Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

17V812000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Master Cylinder

Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017)

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2015-2018 1299 motorcycles (including STD, S, FE and SL models), Monster 1200 motorcycles (including S and R models), Multistrada motorcycles (including S and PP models), 2015-2017 Panigale R, 2016-2018 XDaviel S motorcycles and 2017-2018 Scrambler 800 Café Racer motorcycles. These motorcycles are equipped with Brembo front brake master cylinders that may fail.

Consequence: If the front brake master cylinder fails, the loss of front braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder piston, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 15, 2018. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696.

REAR BRAKES HAVE FAILED FOUR TIMES. THEY HAVE FAILED THREE TIMES AFTER THE LAST RECALL. THE BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR HEATS UP BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION NEAR THE EXHAUST PIPE AND CHEMICALLY BREAKS DOWN CAUSING FADING AND FAILURE OF THE BRAKE. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE MOTORCYCLES. ACCORDING TO DUCATI SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES, DUCATI KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT THINK THE REAR BRAKE IS NECESSARY FOR STOPPING THEREFORE, THEY HAVE NOT PROPERLY ADDRESSED THE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

I purchased this motorcycle brand new in 2014. Since that time, the rear brake has never worked properly. It is extremely weak and does very little to slow down the motorcycle. It is available for inspection upon request. Many times I have used the rear brakes (in conjunction with the front brakes) and the rears do very little to slow down the motorcycle. In a panic stop situation, the rear brakes don't add anything significant to the stopping power. Multiple dealerships have inspected the rear brake and have told me that the weak rear …

The rear brake seems to be ineffective compared to other Ducati models I've owned. This condition has lead to depending on the front brakes more than the standard 70% due to the rears not performing their part. This has caused (In my humble opinion) the fronts to warp causing pulsing in the front brakes. This was noted with fewer than 1200 miles when first service was performed. Dealer noted nothing abnormal other then the sound of a horn (sounds like a trumpet) while rolling the bike at a walking pace. This issue became worse as I made my way …

The motorcycle has had occasional issues of stalling while riding if I pull the clutch in while coasting to a stop. For example coming up to a light or stop sign, I would anticipate the stop and downshift and pull the clutch in, resulting In a stall. Yesterday while setting the cruise control at 40 MPH and cruising down the street, the bike just stalled and turned off while being on cruise control. I was able to restrat the bike when I stopped. Coasting to a stop and the engine shuts off. Bogging in low gears . Very dangerous in that my motorcycle stalled out 3 times on a major highway when coming up on a traffic jam. I have over 30 years experience riding motorcycles of different brands and types and had never had this happen.

THE MANUFACTURER IS ADVISING ME THIS IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IGNORING THE CLEAR POOR QUALITY AND/OR DESIGN OF THIS PART WHICH HAS REQUIRED SO MANY REPLACEMENTS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME PERIOD. DUCATI SUGGESTED THAT I ATTEMPT TO CONTROL THE SURGES BY REDUCING THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL THAT LIMIT FRONT WHEEL RISES. THIS IS BOTH A DANGEROUS SUGGESTION AND INEFFECTIVE AS IT ONLY A PART OF THE PROBLEM. SUBSEQUENTLY…

AFTER TRAVELING FOR A FEW MINUTES AT 35 MILES PER HOUR IN SECOND GEAR I APPLIED THE THROTTLE TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE TRYING TO MERGE INTO FASTER TRAFFIC AS WHEN ENTERING THE …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
