24V514000 · Steering:Critical Fasteners
Reported: 2024-07-05 (July 5, 2024)
Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Low Floor transit buses. The steering spline shaft fasteners may have been improperly tightened, allowing the steering spline shaft to loosen.
Consequence: A loose steering shaft can cause a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Gillig will tighten the fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500.

Reported: 2024-10-29 (October 29, 2024)
Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2024 Low Floor buses. A defective welded joint may cause the wiper arm to suddenly fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
Consequence: Inoperative wipers can reduce the driver's ability to see out of the windshield, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Gillig will replace the wiper motor arm, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 12, 2024. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

NHTSA campaign record ↗24V959000 · Electrical System:Ignition:Interlock/Lockout
Reported: 2024-12-20 (December 20, 2024)
Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Low Floor style transit buses. The high voltage electric air compressor may not be connected to the High Voltage Interlock Loop (HVIL). Therefore, the HVIL cannot detect a loose or disconnected compressor power cable.
Consequence: Failure to alert the operator to a power cable issue can increase the risk of injury by electrical shock.
Remedy: Dealers will install an additional electrical harness, extending the HVIL loop to the air compressor, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2025. Owners may contact GILLIG customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

Reported: 2025-04-01 (April 1, 2025)
Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Low Floor transit buses. The high voltage batteries may have loose hardware that can fall inside the battery pack and create a short circuit.
Consequence: A short circuit increases the risk of a fire. In addition, the battery contactors may open suddenly and cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Gillig will install new battery fasteners as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 28, 2025. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

When the compressor fails, system air pressure drops, resulting in automatic application of the brakes. Unlike a conventional combustion-engine drivetrain, the all-electric drivetrain can continue producing sufficient torque to allow the driver to power through the automatically applied brakes, particularly when the low-air condition occurs while the bus is in motion. Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
