Recall history

6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

13V170000 · Exterior Lighting

Reported: 2013-05-01 (May 1, 2013)

Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Canyon Star motorhomes manufactured August 4, 2011, through February 19, 2013, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may have missing reflectors on the rear cap.

Consequence: The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the motorhome, increasing the risk that another vehicle may crash into the motorhome.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners and dealers will install the required reflectors. The safety recall began on June 20, 2013. Owners may contact Newmar at 1-574-773-7791.

15V477000 · Fuel System, Gasoline

Reported: 2015-07-28 (July 28, 2015)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 Canyon Star toy haulers manufactured from November 28, 2007, through July 9, 2015, and model year 2007-2009 All Star toy haulers manufactured from January 30, 2006, through October 21, 2009. There is unprotected flammable plastic wrap surrounding the exterior fuel dispensing system which could burn if exposed to an ignition source.

Consequence: If the exterior fuel dispensing compartment were to catch fire, the surrounding plastic wrap material could burn increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective metal sheet on the top of the exterior fuel compartment. The repair will be performed free of charge. The recall began on September 1, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791.

15V808000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer | Latches/Locks/Linkages:Doors:Latch

Reported: 2015-12-01 (December 1, 2015)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 King Aire, 2009-2014 Essex, 2011-2015 Mountain Aire, Ventana, and Dutch Star, 2012-2014 Ventana LE, 2012-2015 Canyon Star, and 2015 London Aire motorhomes. The affected vehicles are equipped with refrigerator door latches that may inadvertently lock without the operator's knowledge.

Consequence: If an individual climbed into the refrigerator and the door inadvertently latched, the person would not be able to open the door, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a new replacement door latch that will not automatically latch, free of charge. The recall began on January 24, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

16V008000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Reported: 2016-01-13 (January 13, 2016)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 Bay Star, Dutch Star, and Ventana, 2012-2014 Bay Star Sport and Ventana VL, 2008-2015 Canyon Star, 2009-2010 Dutch Aire and 2008 Kountry Star motorhomes manufactured May 29, 2007, to January 14, 2015, and equipped with certain Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps manufactured by Lippert Components. The bolt that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.

Consequence: Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791 or Lippert Customer service at 574-537-8900. Newmar's number for this recall is 15E 078.

Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

I have a 2015 Newmar Canyon Star 3953 (on an F-53 Motorhome Chassis) serial number [XXX] with 57,335 miles. The attached picture does not do justice to what I have to say. The picture is the front rotor of the brake assembly. In between the outer and inner plates of the rotor are two steel rods. The only purpose (that is thought) of the rod is to balance the rotor. The problem is, the rotor heats up as you brake then expands the rotor which loosens the area around the rod. Centrifugal force moves the rod out of the air gap and it starts to hit…

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING A 2016 NEWMAR CANYON STAR MOTORHOME, WE EXPERIENCED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND HYDROBOOST LIGHTS COMING ON. THIS WOULD RANDOMLY OCCUR WHETHER WE DROVE IT 30 FEET OR 30 MILES. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAID TO TAKE IT IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER, WHICH WE DID. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING PROBLEM SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN OCTOBER, 2015. WE ONLY HAVE 1600 MILES ON SAID VEHICLE. FORD REPLACED THE ABS MODULE WHICH DID NOT HELP. FORD THEN REPLACED A RELAY AND FLOW VALVE ON THE HYDROBOOST. THIS DID NOT HELP. AT TH…

On Friday, May 13th 2022 my wife and I were returning from a camping trip in our 2022 Canyon Star motorhome. We were getting close to home, we heard what sounded like a loud bang and the passenger side window had suddenly shattered. It appeared that the epicenter of the shatter was a circular spot behind the outside mirror about 2" from the bottom of the glass. We were not in any traffic and there were no cars near us. We did not see any debris that got kicked up at all. It appears to have just shattered for no reason. We suspect that the…

ON MAY 3, 2021 WHILE DRIVING I-71 S IN OHIO DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM, I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM. I WAS TRAVELLING APPROX. 55 MPH. EITHER THE WIPER ARM (WHERE IT'S ATTACHED TO THE MOTOR) FAILED AND CAUSED THE BRACKET HOLDING THE MOTOR TO FAIL, OR THE BRACKET FAILED AND CAUSED THE WIPER ARMS TO FAIL. BOTH WIPERS, DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE FELL DOWN AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD AND HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY.

While stopping, a heavy knock was apparent from the forward left wheel area. This knock was speed related and was easily identified as a rotational noise. As the speed of the tire rotation decreased the knock slowed until it was identifiable as one knock per wheel rotation.
