Owner report 746007 · 2001-05-28 (May 28, 2001)

ON THE DATE INDICATED, WHILE THE MOTORHOME WAS PLUGGED INTO 115V 30 AMP A/C POWER, WITH ONE ROOF AIR CONDITIONER OPERATING, AN ELECTRICAL FIRE OCCURRED IN THE JUNCTION BOX. THE FIRE, APPARENTLY CAUSED BY A SHORT CIRCUIT, CONSUMED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WIRING INSULATION. FORTUNATELY, THE FIRE DID NOT SPREAD TO OTHER MATERIAL. DAMAGE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE POWERTEK BREAKER BOX AND REPAIR OF THE WIRING. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAD OCCURRED IN THIS MOTORHOME. A VERY SIMILAR ELECTRICAL SHORT AND FIRE OCCURRED IN JULY 2000. …

BEFORE I COULD PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE ALARM FOR THE REAR AIR BRAKES SOUNDED AND THE GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ZERO, AND THEN IT COMPLETELY LOST ALL ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL POWER. I DRIFTED TO A STOP. IN MY SIDE MIRROR I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE REAR DRIVERS COMPARTMENT. I RAN TO THE REAR OF THE MOTORHOME AND SAW FIRE COMING OUT OF THE SECOND COMPARTMENT FROM THE REAR. I OPENED THE DOOR AND FLAMES SHOT OUT. THE FIRE WAS CO…

DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYS VARIOUS WARNING MESSAGES, LOW BRAKE AIR PRESSURE AND SIMILAR MESSAGES DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. MOUNTING LOCATION OF THE UNIT MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE DISPLAY FROM THE DRIVERS LOCATION. ATTEMPTING TO SEE THE WARNING MESSAGE DIVERTS ATTENTION FROM THE ROAD AND IS HAZARDOUS AND COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. FULL TIME LIGHT OF THE DISPLAY HAS BEEN DONE BUT HAS NOT IMPROVED THE SITUATION. MANUFACTURER HAS SAID THEY HAVE NO FURTHER SOLUTIONS. REMOUNTING OF THE DISPLAY SHOULD BE DONE DO THAT IT IS READILY VI…

WHILE TRAVELING DOWN I-77 NEARING STATESVILLE, NC, THE CONVECTION OVEN/MICROWAVE FELL OUT OF THE CEILING FACE DOWN ONTO THE STOVE. IT APPEARS THAT THE BRACKETS PULLED OUT OF THE OVEN CAUSING IT TO FALL. THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY REASON FOR A CONVECTION OVEN TO FALL OUT OF THE CEILING OF A MOTORHOME UNLESS OF A DESIGN FLAW OR SOMEONE NOT MOUNTING THE OVEN CORRECTLY. AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT, THIS OVEN HAS ALWAYS BOUNCED AND MADE SQUEAKING NOISES WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD, HOWEVER, I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD FALL OUT OF THE CEILING. IT COULD NO…

I HAVE A 2004 FLEETWOOD DISCOVERY MOTORHOME THAT HAS SE-GI WINDOWS. THESE WINDOW SEALS ARE BROKEN AND THEY ARE FOGGING UP VERY BADLY. ALL OF THE WINDOWS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE OUT OF WHEN THE SUN IS DIRECTLY ON THEM. THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW IS SO BAD IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE MY MIRROR. WHEN THE SUN IS DIRECTLY ON IT I CAN'T EVEN SEE MY MIRROR. THIS IN TURN MAKES IT VERY UNSAFE WHEN CHANGING LANES AND BACKING UP. SINCE THIS IS SUCH A GRAVE SAFETY ISSUE SOMETHING MUST BE DONE SO I CAN SAFELY DRIVE MY MOTOR HOME. NUMEROUS RV OWNERS HAVE HAD THE VERY…

THE UNDERCARRIAGE SIDE STORAGE ACCESS DOORS DO NOT REMAIN CLOSED EVEN WHEN LOCKED. OFTEN WHEN THE ROAD IS BUMPY OR ROUGH THE DOORS WILL FLY OPEN. RECENTLY WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH JACKSONVILLE FL ON I-95 THE PASSENGER SIDE DOORS FLEW OPEN WHEN I SLOWED DOWN. I WAS IN THE CENTER LANE DURING HEAVY HEAVY TRAFFIC AND CARS ON MY RIGHT HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND VEER TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING THE DOORS. HAVING TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE TO GET OF THE ROAD WITH THE DOORS OPEN WAS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND WE WERE FORTUNATE TO MAKE IT WITHOUT …

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FLEETWOOD DISCOVERY 37R RV. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH DOWN HILL, THE GENERATOR LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE RV COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENED. THE CLASP LOOSENED, WHICH ALLOWED THE GENERATOR TO SLIDE OUT. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND, WITH THE HELP OF OTHER DRIVERS, PUSHED THE GENERATOR BACK INSIDE THE COMPARTMENT. THE RV WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (FLAGG RV IN UXBRIDGE, MA) AND THE RV HAD BEEN THERE EVER SINCE AWAITING PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE…

The Dashboard Module provided by MEDALLION INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEMS Part# 66-02439-000 on the Freightliner Chassis is delaminating causing the critical gauges to become difficult to read. Additionally the screen will unexpectedly dim causing additional readability. I consider this to be a potential safety issue as it is unknown if and when the screen may go entirely blank. I have contacted Freightliner and they will not warranty the part even though it appears they own Medallion and this part is proprietary. There apparent fix is a $6,000 re…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
